MS class Metro-Scania buses entered service on route S2, including one that went in the pond |
Details: |
Following the hiring of a demonstrator (used at Plumstead on the 99), a batch of six Metro-Scania single-decker buses was bought in 1973 and entered service on this day on route S2 between Bromley-by-Bow and Clapton Pond. Numbered as MS1-6, MS4 famously crashed into the pond at Clapton on its first day, though the damage was surprisingly minimal. The type was joined a few months later by six Leyland National buses (LS1-6) for a comparative trial. |
