The Ford D series was revamped in its last few years, with a simpler black grille and square headlamps. Only the last ten D series service vehicles featured this design, and these included four railway emergency box trucks. This view taken at Acton on 31st October 1990 shows both the earlier and final design on such vehicles. 1986F (OJD986R) on the left was the prototype, delivered in October 1976, while 2200F (CUC200V) on the right was received in January 1980. Both had been allocated to Neasden and had been recently moved to Acton for storage upon replacement by Mercedes-Benz demountables.
