An interesting find at Eastleigh Railway Works on 16th January 2013 was this rather sorry-looking former tube train. Delivered in October 1934 as Piccadilly line car number 3690, it was renumbered as pilot motor car number L130 in 1967, working with the former 3693, renumbered as L131. Repainted maroon, the pair were used for various duties including (in 1981) working a rail grinding car over the BR lines between Kingston and Shepperton. Later repainted yellow, L130 survived as one of several pre-1938 stock cars (including some returned from the Isle of Wight) retained at Acton for possible eventual restoration. It seems this is not now going to happen, the move to Eastleigh presumably being a precursor to scrapping. Visible on the adjacent track are several stored, German-registered, covered steel coil wagons.
