Details: Colin caught a pair of Mk5 Ford Transit vans rounding the corner of Buckingham Palace Road and Grosvenor Gardens at Victoria on 17th May 1999. Although both are in LUL white/blue livery, there are differences that suggest they may not have been working together. 4853F in front has a roof-rack and 'Engineering services' lettering (unfortunately the three lines of cabside lettering cannot be read), while older 4435F had 'Support services' and was believed to be one of the mail vans. 4435F was withdrawn in January 2000, while the disposal date of 4853F is not known. I did photograph it in plain white at Waterloo station in 2004, and there is a possibility it had been retained for use by Transport Police as a covert surveillance vehicle. |
