Ford Cargo lorries continued to be bought in small numbers throughout the 1980s, alongside similar vehicles from Bedford, Dodge and Mercedes-Benz. From about 1986, the long-standing tradition of matching registration numbers to fleet numbers was abandoned. The result can be seen in this view of Ford Cargo 0809 Dropside Lorry 2436F, carrying D208YLK. The lighter 0809 model can be recognised by its smaller wheels and thinner mudguards. New in 1986, this vehicle was reportedly sold in July 1992, representing a shorter life than normal. When photographed at Fulwell garage on 28th June 1987, it was carrying the modified Distribution Services livery. At this time, Fulwell was being used a storage and disposal point for redundant buses.
