This official photo shows the Dyson trailer from 1010L parked on its own in the front yard at Chiswick Works, probably when it was still new in about 1953. The substantial prop legs on each side have been lowered, while the four wheels across the rear are apparent. Comparing this photo with the later one of the trailer in use (see here) shows a number of differences. Firstly, the edging to the flatbed was not present in the loaded photo. These were presumably removable to allow loading from the side, and in fact the metalwork visible on the ground in front could be part of this. Secondly, the later photo shows a pair of storage boxes either side of the front bolster, which are not present here. Finally, the large winch visible in the later photo is not present, though there is what appears to be a capstan/rollers, which were perhaps used in conjunction with the winch on the Leyland Beaver tractor unit that this trailer was normally used with. |
