This remarkable photo was taken from the footbridge at Hammersmith (Met) Station on 22nd April 2017. A number of engineering trains occupy most of the track as far as Goldhawk Road Station, each with a battery loco at each end. As far as I know there are 29 of these still in stock, with probably 16 just about visible here. In fact a further 6 were on trains in the station behind the photographer. Most of the locos have been refurbished with new cab-front walkways and handrails. Nearest the camera is L50, built by BREL Doncaster in 1974. This one was notable for lacking high-level drawgear and buffers.

Great picture, and yes there are 29 battery loco's. The last loco with the original cab layout, L15 is just about to be modified at Acton TMU.
