The Go-Ahead name first appeared as a prefix to the Northern fleetname in the mid-1980s. Northern General operated in the Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham areas and was the largest National Bus Company subsidiary to avoid being broken up in the preparations for deregulation. The revised fleetname is seen here on Ford Transit Mk2 van 103, photographed in 1991. Today the Go-Ahead group has transport interests in many parts of the UK, and is the largest operator of London bus services.
