Tree loppers or pruners were a minor but constant feature of the London Transport fleet, especially in the years prior to 1970 when services ran quite far out from London. At first, time-expired buses were used but a move to purchasing specialist lorries was made in 1962. After 1970, just 1 such vehicle was deemed necessary, and in 1976 a Ford D1010 lorry was bought and numbered 1935F (KJD935P).
As the picture shows, this featured a tall body, although the upper parts were in fact open to contain a working platform. Two drop-down flaps were provided on the nearside to increase the reach of operators, while access was through the main body, which also featured crew accommodation. Note the drainage port above the cab. Pruning duties were later turned over to local councils and specialist contractors.
