In the Michael Clark photo albums we now have a view inside showing an engine cowling and gear lever, and what looks like a radiator behind the front grille. Mercury did manufacture trucks with Ford 10hp engines, so that is likely here, with that and a gearbox connected at the front to a drive shaft beneath the cab floor. The 'MCC Electric' plate might mark the location of a box attached to a battery as a 'motor control centre' or similar. (The cab and innards were missing when I examined it). |

The VR is indeed wrong about a move to Tottenham, as Simon Kaye, then a mechanic at Leyton, reports:- The last operational Matador was 746P at Leyton. In the mid 70s, 747P and 750P were both dumped in the bay at Leyton as a source of spares for 746P. I think one of them donated its engine. Both were engineless when they left. One of the last jobs that 746P did was to front-lift the other two to Chiswick for disposal.
