Details: Another interesting photograph from John Marshall's collection. The subject this time is 2138F, a Ford A0609 van new in May 1979. Contemporary London Bus Handbooks listed this vehicle as being a 4 ton railway breakdown tender with crew-cab and tail lift (ie the same as 2135F to 2137F). However, as this photo shows, 2138F was in fact a normal parcels van bodied A0609, rather like 2087F. It was allocated to the Permanent Way Engineer at Lillie Bridge for use as an emergency vehicle and, according to Kim Rennie's service vehicle book, had extra seats in the rear. It was photographed at Chiswick Works on 9th April 1987, near the end of its life. The livery looks a rather darker than normal shade of red, while there may still be a London Transport gold fleetname on the door. The van was delicensed two months later and was presumably sold for scrap.
