The FEV wagons were 1970s conversions of BPV Boplate wagons to carry containerised coke, rocksalt, potash and clay. Most (but not all) had their floors and sides removed and many were air-piped during the 1980s to become FEWs. Following withdrawal from revenue service, some survived into the 1990s as departmental types YSV and YSW. The FEA is a 21st century container wagon that comes in singles and pairs. As well as intermodal traffic, the type is used for infrastructure duties for which specialised modules are carried.
