| Details: If 2373F was the 'prototype' for the Ford Cargo with London Transport, then 2378F shown here represents the first 'production' batch. Seven were bought in spring 1983, comprising two further artic tractor units and five dropside lorries, all carrying NYR3--Y registration numbers. The five dropsides were quite varied, two (2380F/2381F) being heavyweight Cargo 1613 versions with long bodies (three dropside doors each side) while 2392F was a light-weight Cargo 0809 with a quarter-tilt. The other two (2378F and 2388F) were both mid-weight Cargo 1011s with short dropside bodies (two doors) and tail-lifts. However, 2378F had wooden doors while 2388F had metal ones, and there were other minor differences suggesting that the bodies had been built by two different companies. Rather strangely, the only photos of 2378F that I have come across are a couple taken by James when the lorry was paying a visit to Edgware Garage. Judging by its relatively smart condition, these were probably taken in about 1983/1984. We don't have a withdrawal date for 2378F but it was most likely in the early 1990s. The lorry then remained in the UK until about 2005 before being exported. | ||
